The Problem
Immersion into a local culture and the daily life of a new place is an important part of traveling abroad for many people. However, language barriers, culture shock, and unfamiliarity with an area can be intimidating and a source of stress for adventurers exploring a new place for the first time.
The Solution
Field Trip was developed to offer travelers an all-inclusive resource to help them confidently ideate, plan, and live their next big adventure.

Interview Plan
Perform 1 on 1 interviews with 6 participants to understand how planning and preparing for international trips can be made easier and more effective.
Research Plan
We aim to develop an app that would combine the ease of travel packages with the flexibility of independent planning for users going abroad. We will conduct 15-20 minute user interviews to collect qualitative data. We will take notes and utilize this info to inform how we can improve our trajectory.

Empathy Map
User Persona
Information and insights gathered through user interviews fed into an empathy map, which then informed the creation of a user persona that combines the desire for adventure and new experiences with the need for planning support and assurance of a safe and enriching trip.
With the user persona fleshed out, a narrative around Emilia’s travel desires and anxieties was created for the user insight statement:
“Emilia is visiting Tokyo for the first time and needs reliable help navigating the unique culture and discovering local hidden gems, because she is eager for an immersive experience where she is fully able to absorb, explore, and enjoy such a new and different place.”
After ideating and prioritizing essential features and performing a competitor analysis, a user flow of a minimum viable product was made.
